Redang school holidays: how soon to ask

Ask as soon as your school-holiday dates are fixed. Asking early lets you compare rooms, see the holiday supplement and decide before you commit leave or money. This guide gives you a way to count back from your dates and the three questions to ask at each stage.

How do you count back from your dates?

Start with the date you need to have answers by, then work backwards. The steps below are a planning method, not a rule from any resort.

1. Choose your decision date: when you must have leave approved or a deposit paid.
2. Allow time to compare at least two written quotations.
3. Allow time for each resort to reply.
4. Add a few days for questions you did not expect.

As an example, if the break starts on 21 May 2027 and you want a decision six weeks before, your decision date is 9 April 2027. That means your first questions should go out well before then. The example date comes from a list we could not verify, so use your own.

Which dates count as school holidays?

One aggregator lists the 2027 mid-year break as 21 May to 5 June for Group A and 22 May to 6 June for Group B ^[1]. It also lists a March break and a late-August break. These lists are not verified against the ministry, so check the official calendar.

Public holidays can add long weekends. One summary lists Hari Raya Haji on 17 May 2027, or 18 May in Kelantan and Terengganu, and notes that dates depend on moon sighting ^[2]. Read our guide to the school-holiday calendar and island demand before you set your dates.

What do you ask at each stage?

Keep the questions short, and ask the same ones of every resort.

The first answer tells you about availability. The second shows the supplement before it reaches the total. The third protects your money.

How does a holiday supplement show up?

It appears as a higher nightly rate, a separate line, or a minimum stay. The gap between the holiday rate and the ordinary rate repeats for every night in the band.

What about the monsoon?
