Tanjung Leman jetty or Mersing: which one?
You want Tinggi or Sibu and need to know if Tanjung Leman is the jetty for you.
Tanjung Leman is the jetty for Pulau Tinggi and Pulau Sibu, while Mersing Jetty serves Rawa, Besar and Tinggi [1]. So for Sibu, Tanjung Leman is the jetty research names. For Tinggi, you have a choice, and your resort fixes it.
The right jetty is the one your booking uses.
For the wider choice, read choosing a Johor island: Mersing, Tanjung Leman and what each serves. For the island itself, see our Pulau Tinggi island guide.
Which jetty serves which island?
| Island | Tanjung Leman | Mersing |
|---|---|---|
| Pulau Tinggi | Yes [1] | Yes [1] |
| Pulau Sibu | Yes | Not listed in research |
| Pulau Rawa | Not listed | Yes |
| Pulau Besar | Not listed | Yes |
The table comes from the research jetty register. Where an island has two jetties, your resort decides which one it uses.
When does Tanjung Leman make sense?
It makes sense when your island is Sibu, or when your Tinggi resort departs from there. For Tinggi, one source puts the boat at about 30 minutes from Tanjung Leman, and another lists a 45 minute ferry [2]. Those are the only boat times available, so they are a guide, not a promise.
We have no confirmed road times for either jetty, so no claim is made that one is closer. Test it yourself. Enter your start point, the jetty and your arrival time in our jetty connection planner.
What should you ask your resort?
- Which jetty does my booking use, and which pier?
- What time must we arrive, and what time is the boat?
- Is the boat included in the room price?
- Where do I park, and is there a fee?
- What is the return time, and what if I miss it?
- What happens if the sea is too rough to sail?
What about fees and season?
A 2017 schedule reports RM5 for Malaysian adults and RM30 for non-Malaysians at the Mersing counters, but this is low confidence and was not confirmed for Tinggi or Sibu [4]. Ask whether any fee is in your package or paid at the jetty.
Mersing-area islands have a closure period from about November to February, and 2026 activities resumed in April per one report [3]. Ask for each resort’s season dates in writing. See Mersing island hopping: Rawa, Besar and Tinggi if you want to compare.
A better fit if
Tanjung Leman may be a better fit if:
- you want Sibu, or a Tinggi resort that departs there.
- you prefer the jetty your resort names, with fewer unknowns.
Mersing may be a better fit if your resort departs from there or you want to combine other islands. For a two-island stay, see Sibu and Tinggi as a two-night pairing. Send us your plan and we will help you confirm the jetty.
