Sibu and Tinggi from one jetty, two nights
Two Johor islands in one short trip sounds good, and you want to know if it works.
Yes, Sibu and Tinggi can sit in one trip because both are reached from the Tanjung Leman jetty [1]. A regular boat between the two islands is the unconfirmed part. Treat that as the first question to ask, before any room is booked.
For the wider picture, read our guide to Tanjung Leman jetty and when it beats Mersing and the Johor island comparison for Mersing and Tanjung Leman.
What does a shared jetty actually give you?
A shared jetty gives you one road journey and one place to leave your car or meet your pickup. It does not give you one boat. Each island still has its own crossing, and the crossing is where your time goes.
Research puts the trip to Tinggi at about 30 minutes by speedboat from Tanjung Leman, while another listing shows a 45 minute ferry [2]. Research returned no boat time for Sibu [4]. So the sums below use your confirmed times, not ours.
How can you split two nights between the islands?
There are three common shapes. Each one trades beach time against boat time.
| Plan | How it works | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| One night each | Sleep on Sibu, move, sleep on Tinggi | A boat between the islands, or a return to the jetty in between |
| Two nights on one island, a day visit to the other | Fewer packed bags, one check-in | Whether day visits are allowed and priced |
| Back to the jetty between stays | Easiest to understand, most boat legs | Jetty waiting time and whether the second boat is shared |
If your group includes children or grandparents, the second row is the gentlest. Fewer moves means fewer boardings.
What does the second boat cost you in time?
Take a Friday-to-Sunday trip as a worked example. Write down your arrival at the jetty, the boat to island one, checkout on Saturday, the move, check-in at island two, and the last boat back on Sunday.
Every move costs a check-out, a boat, a wait and a check-in. Even if each one is short, they add up to a lost afternoon. With your own boat times, our jetty connection planner shows the hours that remain for the sand.
When is the pairing a better fit?
It may be a better fit if:
- you are curious about both islands and cannot choose.
- your group is flexible and enjoys the boat ride.
- you have at least a few hours of slack on both travel days.
One island is a better fit if:
- you want to sleep late and swim on arrival day.
- you travel with young children, or with someone who boards boats slowly.
- your return boat or flight is early.
Our guides on a slow Pulau Sibu stay and a slow Tinggi stay with short walks show what a single-island plan can look like.
What about the season?
Mersing-area islands have a closure period from about November to February, and one report noted activities resuming in April in 2026 [3]. Dates differ by resort and year, and nobody can promise the sea. Ask for each resort’s dates and its rule when a boat cannot sail.
What should you ask before you book?
- Which jetty do both bookings use, and at what time?
- Is there a boat between Sibu and Tinggi on my dates, and who runs it?
- Is the island-to-island leg in the package or extra?
- Are check-in and checkout times compatible with the boat?
- What happens if one boat cancels and the other does not?
Send the same list to both places so the answers are easy to compare. If you also want to weigh the two islands against each other first, our Tinggi and Sibu route comparison is the next read.
Common questions
Can I stay one night on Sibu and one night on Tinggi?
It may be possible, but a regular boat between the two islands is not yet confirmed. Ask each resort or agent whether a transfer runs on your day, who operates it, and whether it is priced per person or per boat. Get the answer in writing before you pay.
Is the shared jetty a real advantage?
It helps because one drive gets you to one jetty, so you do not plan two road legs. It does not remove the sea leg. Each island still needs its own boat booking, and boat times decide how much beach time you really get.
Is two nights enough for two islands?
Two nights is enough to see both if the boat times fit, but you will spend part of each day moving. If you want slow mornings, one island for two nights tends to feel calmer. Count your hours with the jetty planner before you decide.
When do these islands close?
Mersing-area islands have a closure period roughly from November to February, and exact dates differ by resort and year. Ask each place for its season dates in writing, and ask what happens if the boat cannot sail on your travel day.
