Kapas or Gemia: day trip or overnight

Kapas and Gemia are close, but they are not interchangeable. Gemia is a privately owned island with one resort, and Kapas has several places to stay on its west coast. Both leave from Marang, so your first job is to be sure your booking names the right island.

What does each island suit?

Kapas suits you if you want a choice of places to stay and the shortest crossing. Mak Cik Gemuk Beach Resort on Kapas runs its own speedboat of 10 to 15 minutes ^[3], which shows that resorts may arrange their own boats.

Gemia suits you if you want a stay inside one private resort. The set-up is Gem Island Resort and Spa, the only resort reported on the island ^[2]. Because there is one provider, ask exactly what the price includes.

Day trip or overnight?

A day trip suits you when time or money is tight. A night suits you when you want slow evenings and early mornings on the beach.

Boats to Kapas run from about 07:00 to 17:00, as reported ^[1]. Ask the operator for the last boat back on your date.

Can you combine them?

It is possible because they share a jetty and sit about 800 metres apart ^[2]. Ask whether a resort will move you between the two and what it costs. Read Kapas and Gemia as a combined stay first.
