Is that package price still live?
You found a price online or in a chat and want to know if it still holds.
A price you saw online or in a chat is a lead until someone confirms it for your dates, in writing. Check the date it was issued, the date it is valid until, the dates it covers, what is included and who is confirming it. That takes one message and can save a deposit.
Prices on islands change with the season, the room and the group, so a number from last month may not hold today. This page gives you a six-step check and a reply template. Use it with the island booking checklist and our guides on quote validity and price holds and what counts as a quote.
What do the dates on a quote mean?
A quote can carry four different dates, and mixing them up causes most confusion:
- Issued: the day the quote was written.
- Valid until: the last day the agency will honour the price if you accept.
- Travel dates: the nights the price covers.
- Payment dates: when the deposit and balance are due.
If a quote shows only one date, ask what it is. A price with no valid-until date has no guaranteed life.
What is the six-step currency check?
- Find the issued date. If it is old, treat the price as a lead.
- Find the valid-until date. If it has passed, ask for a new quote.
- Check that the travel dates match yours, night for night.
- Check the group: adults, children and their ages must match.
- Check what is included: room, meals, boat both ways, fees and taxes.
- Ask for written confirmation from the company that issued it.
If any step fails, the price is not live for you yet.
Why might the same package show two prices?
Dates, school holidays and group size all move the number. A weekday price can differ from a weekend one. A package with the boat included can look dearer than one without it, and the second may be missing a line.
Fees can also be separate. For example, the marine park fee on Redang is reported at RM30 for an adult and RM15 for a child without a MyKad, and RM5 and RM2 with one [1].
It may or may not sit inside the price. Our page on spotting missing items in a package quote shows what to look for.
What should the confirmation message say?
Copy this and fill it in:
- I saw this price: __ for __ nights on __ (date I saw it).
- My dates: __ to __. My group: __ adults, __ children aged __.
- Please confirm in writing that this price holds for my dates and group.
- Please list what is included and what is extra.
- Please tell me the valid-until date, and whether a deposit locks the price.
One clear message gets a clear answer. A vague one gets a vague answer.
How do you keep a record?
Save the confirmation message with its date, the quote file and your own note of the total you were told. If the price later changes, these three items show what was agreed.
Write the amount and the valid-until date in your own notes too, so you notice if a later invoice differs. A calm paper trail turns any correction into a short conversation.
What if the answer is slow or unclear?
Do not pay while the price is unconfirmed. If the reply avoids the question, ask a second time, and if it still does, treat the price as unavailable.
You can ask us to help. We are an independent guide, not the booking desk, and our page on the site’s role explains what we do.
For payment, see payment methods and safety. Use the cost calculator to rebuild the total yourself.
A better fit if…
This check may be a better fit if you found a price on a poster, a social post or a forwarded chat.
A fresh quote from scratch may be a better fit if your dates or group have changed since you saw the price. Start with what details to send for an accurate quotation.
Common questions
How can I tell if a package price is still live?
Check the date it was issued, the date it is valid until and the travel dates it covers, then ask the agency to confirm in writing that the price holds for your dates. A price on a poster or screenshot is only a lead until someone confirms it.
Is a screenshot of a price valid?
Treat it as a lead. A screenshot shows what someone posted on one day, not what you can book. Ask for a fresh written quote with your dates, group and a validity date.
Why does the same package show different prices?
Prices change with dates, school holidays, room type, group size and what is included. Two prices may describe different packages. Compare the lines, not only the total.
What does valid-until mean on a quote?
It is the last day the agency will honour that price if you accept. After it, the price can change. Ask whether a deposit locks the price and for how long, and keep that answer in writing.
