Pangkor ferry and island transport costs

You want to know what the Lumut crossing and getting around the island add to a package.

The Pangkor route has four legs: the road to the jetty, parking, the ferry, and the transfer on the island. Each is a small number, but together they can change which package is cheaper. Write each leg down and multiply by travellers and directions.

This guide sits beside the full Pangkor budget for two adults. For the island itself, see the Pulau Pangkor island guide.

What are the four legs of the route?

Treat each leg as its own line, because a quote can include some and leave out others.

LegWhat it isAsk
RoadFuel, toll, coach or taxi to the jettyHow do we reach the jetty and how long does it take?
ParkingParking for the nights you are awayWhere, and is there a daily charge?
FerryCrossing from Lumut or Marina IslandWhich jetty, and is the fare per person each way?
Island transferJetty to room, and getting aroundIs a pickup included?

The research we checked gives crossing times but no confirmed fare. So the sections below show the multiplication and leave your fare to the quote.

How do you turn a fare into a trip cost?

Multiply the fare by the number of people and by the number of directions. The formula is: fare per person, times travellers, times directions.

For two adults going both ways the multiplier is four, and for four people it is eight. A small fare grows quickly with the group, even when each leg looks minor.

Add children, luggage or a bicycle only if the operator charges for them. Ask, because rules differ.

How does the jetty change the cost?

Lumut Jetty to Pangkor is reported at about 30 to 45 minutes depending on sea conditions [1]. Marina Island to Pangkor is reported at about 10 to 15 minutes, with a bridge link to the mainland where cars can park [2].

A shorter crossing can save time, and time has a price if it means a second night or an earlier start. Our guide to Lumut Jetty and Marina Island jetty for Pangkor describes both.

If you drive a car, read our guide on the Pangkor ferry from Lumut for car, bike and foot passengers.

How can a missing leg change the true price?

Imagine two quotes for the same room. One includes the ferry both ways. The other leaves it out and looks cheaper.

If the ferry is left out, the second quote must be cheaper by more than four times the fare, for two adults, before it is truly cheaper. A quote that looks only a little cheaper may cost more once the ferry is added back. Compare like with like before you decide.

Our guide on whether a cheaper island package is still cheaper after transfers uses the same idea. Our note on what boat tickets and jetty fees a package includes lists the usual wording.

What should you ask for in writing?

  1. Which jetty will we use, and what time is the first crossing?
  2. Is the ferry included, and in which directions?
  3. Is there a pickup on the island, and who pays?
  4. Where do we park, and is there a fee?
  5. What happens to our booking if the crossing is delayed?

A better fit if…

This breakdown suits you if you are comparing two Pangkor quotations and want to know why they differ. It also suits you if you are driving and need to plan parking. Another page suits you better if you only need a total for the room, so see the Pangkor budget guide above.

Send us your resort name and where you will park or be picked up, and we will help you ask for the ferry and transfer lines in writing.

Common questions

How much is the Pangkor ferry?

The sources we checked give crossing times but no confirmed fare, so we will not quote a number. Ask the operator or your agent for the fare per person for each direction, then multiply by the number of travellers. Check whether children, luggage or a bicycle change the price.

Is the ferry included in a Pangkor package?

It may be, and it may not. A package can include the ferry both ways, one way, or not at all. Ask the agent to name the legs that are included, and which jetty they use, before you compare totals.

Should I take the Lumut or Marina Island jetty?

Lumut is reported at about 30 to 45 minutes and Marina Island at about 10 to 15 minutes. Marina Island has a bridge link where cars can park. The better choice depends on your resort, your car and your arrival time, so ask the resort which one it uses.

What costs appear after I land on the island?

Getting from the jetty to your room, and moving around the island, may be charged separately from the ferry. Ask whether a transfer is included, what it costs if not, and how guests usually get around.
