Ombak Resort vs Alunan Resort: what to compare
Two Perhentian Kecil names appear in blogs, and you want to know what can be checked first.
Ombak Resort has a stated place, Coral Bay on Perhentian Kecil, while Alunan Resort has no confirmed island. So you cannot compare them yet. The first step is to confirm where Alunan is, and the second is to ask both the same questions.
Our Perhentian Kecil island guide explains the island, and the Coral Bay guide covers the bay that Ombak is named for.
What do we know about each resort?
| Ombak Resort | Alunan Resort | |
|---|---|---|
| Island | Perhentian Kecil | Not confirmed |
| Bay | Coral Bay, per a travel blog | Unknown |
| Walk to Long Beach | About 10 to 15 minutes, per the same blog | Unknown |
| Rooms and meals | Not confirmed | Not confirmed |
| Official page | None found | None found |
Both have their own pages: Ombak Resort and Alunan Resort. Both say the same: little is confirmed.
What does a walk to Long Beach mean in practice?
If Ombak is a ten to fifteen minute walk from Long Beach, then food, shops and the evening scene are at the end of that walk. In the day it may suit you. At night, with children or luggage, you may want a different answer.
Ask Ombak whether the path is lit, whether there is a place to eat nearer the room, and whether staff can help with bags. Our Long Beach guide describes the strip, so you can judge what you would walk toward.
How do you reach a Kecil resort?
Boats from Kuala Besut cross in about 40 minutes to Besar [1]. A Kecil stay can add a taxi boat step, which one blogger puts at about RM20 [2]. Treat the figure as a hint and ask the resort whether it is in the quotation.
Also ask where the boat lands for each resort. A landing on one beach and a room on another can mean a longer walk than you expect. See the boat transfer between Besar and Kecil guide.
A better fit if…
Ombak Resort may be a better fit if you want a stated bay on the calmer side and are willing to walk for food. Confirm the room type before you plan.
Alunan Resort may be a better fit only once its island and beach are confirmed. For now it is a question.
Either may be a poor fit if you need food at your door at night. Ask about meals before you book.
Which questions go to both?
- Which island and beach are you on?
- Which room fits our group, and what does it hold?
- Which meals are in the rate?
- How do we get from the Kuala Besut boat to your beach, and who pays?
- What are your closing dates for the monsoon? Heavy monsoon runs roughly November to February [3].
- What happens if the boat cannot sail?
Put the answers in one sheet. Our budget guide for two adults on Perhentian shows how to add the lines up.
Common questions
Where is Ombak Resort?
A travel blog places it at Coral Bay on Perhentian Kecil and mentions a walk of about ten to fifteen minutes to Long Beach. We found no official page, so ask the resort for its position, its room types and how guests land.
Where is Alunan Resort?
We do not know. A blog names it, and we list it under Perhentian Kecil, but the blog does not say which island it is on. Ask for the island, the beach and an official contact before you compare anything.
Do I pay extra to get to Kecil?
If your boat from Kuala Besut lands at Besar, a taxi boat to Kecil may be needed. One blogger gives about RM20, which is a personal figure and may change. Ask whether your quotation includes the last leg to your beach.
Are they open during the monsoon?
Heavy monsoon runs roughly November to February, and most islands are essentially closed to tourists. Exact dates vary by place and year. Ask for opening and closing dates in writing before you choose flights.
