If you cannot reach the resort on arrival day

You are at the jetty or on the way and nobody at the resort is answering.

If the resort does not answer on arrival day, try every contact on your booking, message your name, reference and location, and contact the agent who sold it. Wait somewhere public and safe near the jetty. Keep your messages, because they protect you from a no-show mark.

Most of the work happens before you leave home. This page gives you a contact ladder and a prepare-first list. For the whole route, see the journey in four legs.

What should you prepare before you go?

Do these while you still have signal and time.

  • Save every number on your booking: resort office, transfer contact, agent and boat operator.
  • Screenshot the booking, the transfer details and the address of the pick-up point.
  • Ask the resort who meets you, and in what place. On some islands the resort boat collects guests, as reported for Lang Tengah [1], so the meeting point matters.
  • Tell someone at home your plan and expected arrival.
  • Charge your phone and carry a power bank.

Our page on emergency contacts to save before an island trip lists more.

What is the contact ladder?

Go down this list, and note the time of each attempt.

  1. The resort’s transfer contact, by phone and message.
  2. The resort office or reservations line.
  3. The agent or booking site that sold your stay.
  4. The boat operator, if you booked the boat yourself.
  5. A jetty office or the operator’s counter, in person.

If nobody replies, send the same message to all of them at once. Keep screenshots of every attempt.

What message protects your booking?

Send this early, and again when your location changes:

“Hello, we are [names], booking reference [number], arriving at [jetty] at [time]. We have not been able to reach anyone about our pick-up. Please confirm who will meet us and where. Our phone number is [number].”

Ask for a reply by message. If the resort replies later, you have proof that you were on time and tried to reach them.

Where do you wait?

Wait somewhere public, lit and close to the jetty, with food and a toilet nearby. Keep documents and valuables on you. If you have children, find a place where they can sit and eat.

Do not accept a lift or board an unfamiliar boat unless the resort or agent has confirmed it by message. A confident stranger is not proof. Our page on boat boarding with toddlers and strollers helps if you are travelling with young children.

What if the resort never answers?

After a sensible wait, switch to a fallback. A room near the jetty, and a new attempt in the morning, keeps you safe and your options open. Tell the agent what happened, and read who pays when a connection fails to see who to ask about the cost.

Our page on what to do if you miss the last boat covers the practical steps for the night.

A better fit if…

Waiting at the jetty may be a better fit if a pick-up is clearly due and the resort has confirmed a time. A mainland night may be a better fit if no one replies, it is getting late, or you travel with children or older parents. Send us your contacts and we will help you build the ladder.

Send us your booking messages and the contacts you have, and we will help you build a contact ladder and a message to send before you travel.

Common questions

What should I do if the resort does not answer on arrival day?

Try every contact on your booking, not just one number. Send a message with your name, booking reference and arrival time. Contact the agent who sold the booking. Stay at a safe public place near the jetty while you wait, and keep your messages as proof.

Could the resort mark me as a no-show?

It might, if nobody knows you are on the way. That is why you message early, and message again with your location. Ask for a reply in writing, and keep a screenshot of the time you sent it.

Where do I wait if the resort boat does not come?

Wait somewhere public, lit and close to the jetty, with food and a toilet nearby. Keep your documents on you. Do not board an unfamiliar boat or accept an offer you have not checked with the resort or agent.

What if I have no mobile signal?

Prepare before you go. Save contacts and screenshot your booking while you have signal, and tell someone at home your plan and expected arrival. At the jetty, ask the operator or a jetty office for help reaching the resort.
