Teluk Kalong Redang: south-side beach profile

You want a quieter side of Redang and wonder where Teluk Kalong sits and how snorkelling works.

Teluk Kalong is a resort area in the south of Redang, one of three beaches the research names beside Pasir Panjang on the east side [1]. Beyond its position, research is thin, so this page tells you the questions to ask. The most useful one is about snorkel access: house reef, shore entry or boat trip.

For the island as a whole, see our Pulau Redang island guide. For the busiest beach, read Pasir Panjang Redang.

What does “south side” mean for you?

It means you are away from the long east-coast strip, and the boat landing may be in a different place from where Pasir Panjang guests arrive. Most guests still leave from Merang, where the speedboat takes about 45 minutes [2]. Ask each stay where its boat lands and how you reach your room.

A different position can also mean a different sea. Wind and swell change by side and by season. Ask what the water in front of the resort is like on your dates, not only on average.

How does snorkel access work here?

Research does not say whether Teluk Kalong has a house reef. Ask these:

  • Is there a reef within a short swim of the beach, and how deep is it?
  • How clear is the water in the month I travel?
  • Is a boat trip the main way to snorkel, and is it included?
  • Is gear provided, and what size range is available?
  • Who supervises, and is there a floatation option?

Marine park rules apply around Redang. Activities that damage coral reefs and marine life are prohibited, and the marine park zone is measured from the lowest tide line [4]. Read beach snorkelling from the shore: where it works on the east coast and free snorkelling from the beach versus a paid boat trip to prepare.

What about the season?

Most resorts close during the northeast monsoon, roughly November to March, and ferries are restricted [3]. Exact dates vary by resort and year. Ask in writing, and ask what happens if the boat cannot sail.

A better fit if

Teluk Kalong may be a better fit if:

  • you want to be away from the longest strip of resorts.
  • you are happy to ask questions and compare written answers.
  • you will take a boat trip for snorkelling if the shore is not suited.

Another area may be a better fit if you want a long, easy beach with six resorts to compare. Our guide to Redang beaches for peace and rest lays out the choices.

What to send a southern stay

  • How far is my room from the sand and from the boat landing?
  • Is there a house reef, and can I see a recent photo?
  • What is included in the package, and which meals?
  • What are your season dates?
  • What happens if the boat cannot sail?

Send us your answers and dates and we will help you compare.

Share your dates, your group and how important snorkelling is, and we will help you ask southern Redang stays the access and boat questions that decide whether it suits you.

Common questions

Where is Teluk Kalong on Redang?

Research names Teluk Kalong as a resort area in the south of Redang, alongside Pasir Panjang on the east and Teluk Dalam in the north. It gives few other details, so ask any stay for a map showing the room, the beach and the boat landing.

Can I snorkel from the beach at Teluk Kalong?

Research does not say. Ask whether there is a house reef within a short swim, how deep and clear it is, and whether the resort recommends going by boat instead. Request photos or a short video taken in the last month.

Is Teluk Kalong quiet?

No source rates it for noise. A southern position and a small number of named stays suggest a calm feel, but this is a reasoned guess. Ask each stay about room count, restaurant hours and group bookings.

Which stays are at Teluk Kalong?

Our research did not name stays at Teluk Kalong. Ask any resort that mentions the bay to confirm its beach, meals and boat in writing, and compare with a Pasir Panjang quote.
