Pasir Panjang Redang: the main beach

You keep seeing Pasir Panjang on Redang and want to know what staying there means.

Pasir Panjang is the largest beach on Redang’s east side, and about six resorts line it [1]. In plain terms, it is where most first-time visitors end up because it offers the most choice in one place. The cost of that choice is a beach shared between six resorts, so your stretch of sand matters.

For the island as a whole, see our Pulau Redang island guide. To compare the other areas, start with Redang beaches for peace and rest.

What does a beach shared by six resorts mean?

It means more choice of rooms, meals and budgets in one place. It also means the sand in front of your room may be shared with guests from the next resort, depending on how the beach is divided. Ask each resort whether its beach is marked as its own or open to all.

Our guide on whether the beach is private to the resort or shared shows how to read the answer.

How do you get to Pasir Panjang?

Most guests leave from Merang, where the speedboat takes about 45 minutes [4]. Ask your resort whether its boat lands at its own jetty or at a shared one, and whether you walk to your room.

Read our guide on Merang jetty and how arrival works for the road side, and shore entry on Pasir Panjang for the water.

A usable-time sum for a family trip

Take a 3-day, 2-night trip:

  • Day 1: drive to Merang, a boat of about 45 minutes, then check-in.
  • Day 2: a full day.
  • Day 3: check-out, the boat back and the drive.

If the first boat reaches the island at midday and the last boat back leaves at midday, you may have one full day plus two half days. Ask for the boat times in writing and count your own hours with the jetty connection planner.

What about the season?

Most resorts close during the northeast monsoon, roughly November to March, and ferries are restricted [5]. Exact dates vary by resort and year, so ask for them in writing. Never plan around a weather promise.

A better fit if

Pasir Panjang may be a better fit if:

  • you want a choice of resorts in one place.
  • you like a long beach for walking.
  • you want a resort that arranges meals and the boat.

Another Redang area may be a better fit if you want a smaller, quieter bay. Our guides on Teluk Dalam, Teluk Kalong and Teluk Siang cover the other areas.

What should you ask a Pasir Panjang resort?

  • How many rooms does the resort have, and how wide is its stretch of sand?
  • Is the beach shared with neighbouring resorts?
  • Where is the house reef or snorkel area?
  • Which meals are included?
  • What is the boat time on my dates?
  • What happens if the boat cannot sail?

Send us your dates and we will help you compare.

Share your dates, your group and the pace you want, and we will help you ask the Pasir Panjang resorts the same questions so you can compare the stretch of sand as well as the price.

Common questions

Is Pasir Panjang the main beach on Redang?

Research describes Pasir Panjang on the east side as the largest beach, with about half a dozen resorts. Teluk Dalam in the north and Teluk Kalong in the south are other resort areas. Choose by the room and the package, not only the beach name.

Will Pasir Panjang feel crowded with six resorts?

We have no crowd data. Six resorts share one long beach, so the feel depends on the length of your stretch of sand, your resort's guest count and the season. Ask each resort for its room count and for photos taken in busy weeks.

Which resorts are on Pasir Panjang?

Research places Redang Beach Resort at Pasir Panjang, Laguna Redang at the south end of the strip, and Redang Bay and Redang Paradise side by side. Some of these details come from a single blog, so confirm each with the resort.

Is Pasir Panjang good for families?

It may suit families who want a long beach and a resort that arranges meals and boats. No source rates it for children, so ask about water entry, shade and supervision. Read our beach entry guide for the questions.
