Redang plus Lang Tengah in one trip

You like the sound of both islands and want to know whether one trip can include them.

Redang and Lang Tengah both depart from Merang, so you can plan one trip that includes both, but you will probably return to Merang between them. We found no confirmed direct boat link between the two islands, so ask any resort or agent how a move would work on your dates. For most short trips, one island is the simpler choice.

To learn each island first, read our guides to Pulau Redang and Pulau Lang Tengah. Our guide on Lang Tengah versus Redang for peace compares the feel of each.

What do the two islands share?

The shared point is the jetty. Merang to Redang is about 45 minutes by speedboat, and other guides say 40 to 50 minutes [1]. Merang to Lang Tengah is also about 45 minutes, with resort boats collecting guests [2].

For a first look at the jetty, see our guide on how arrival works at Merang. A shared jetty makes a combined trip possible, but it does not mean the boats connect.

Is there a boat between the two islands?

We did not find a confirmed direct service between Redang and Lang Tengah. A realistic plan may mean returning to Merang and taking a second boat, which uses time and may cost extra.

One source lists a public boat from Merang to Lang Tengah with set times and an adult fare of RM40 one way [3]. It is undated and low confidence. Ask resorts whether they can arrange a boat between the islands and what it costs.

When are the islands open?

Both are affected by the northeast monsoon. For Redang, most resorts close from roughly October to March, and the wettest months are November to February [4]. For Lang Tengah, one source says the best time is March to October, with resorts closing by the end of October [5].

Exact dates vary by resort and year, so ask both resorts for their season in writing. Our guide on the Lang Tengah season explains the pattern.

Is a two-island trip worth it?

It is worth it if you have enough nights to absorb a transfer day, and you want a clear contrast between a larger resort island and a smaller, quieter one. It is less worth it if you have two or three nights, because the move takes a big share of your time.

Our guide on who benefits from a split island stay helps you decide.

Which questions should you ask?

  • Is there a boat between Redang and Lang Tengah, or do we return to Merang?
  • What does the extra transfer cost, and who arranges it?
  • How does the move fit with check-out and check-in?
  • Are both resorts open on my dates?
  • Is the package priced as two separate stays or one trip?

Keep the answers beside your quotations. If you want to compare costs, our cost calculator lets you test your own numbers.

A better fit if…

A two-island trip is a better fit if you have four or more nights and enjoy variety. It is a lesser fit for short trips, families with toddlers, or anyone who prefers to unpack once.

Tell us your nights, your group and whether you prefer to unpack once, and we will help you compare a one-island plan with a Redang and Lang Tengah plan.
