Redang package inclusions: what is standard
You are comparing Redang packages and want a plain list of lines to expect and ask about.
There is no single standard Redang package, so read each line as a question. The lines that matter are the boat from Merang, the room, the meals, the marine park fee and the snorkel trip. Ask for inclusions and exclusions side by side, in writing.
Our Pulau Redang guide gives the setting. This page sits within our wider guide to choosing an island package.
What does the boat line cover?
Most packages are built around the boat. The speedboat from Merang to Redang is about 45 minutes, and other guides say 40 to 50 [1]. A scheduled ferry from Kuala Terengganu takes about 1.5 to 2 hours [2].
Ask these questions:
- Is the boat included in both directions?
- From which jetty, and at what time on my dates?
- Is it a resort boat or a shared service?
- What happens if the weather stops it?
Our guide on Redang boat departures, shared versus private goes deeper.
Which fees sit around a Redang trip?
The marine park fee is the line people miss. Reported amounts are RM30 for an adult without MyKad and RM5 with MyKad, with RM15 and RM2 for children [3]. These come from secondary sources, so ask the operator for the current figure.
Ask whether the fee is in your price or paid on arrival. Our guide on marine park fees, included or paid on arrival shows how to read it.
How do I find out the meal plan?
Ask in words, not labels. Berjaya Redang Island Resort, for example, is a resort with 97 rooms, and its own website does not state meal plans [4]. That does not mean it is unclear, only that the plan must come from the resort or the agency in writing.
Ask these questions:
- Which meals are included on which days?
- Are drinks included, and which?
- Is there a children’s portion or price?
- Can dietary needs be met?
See the dossier for Berjaya Redang Island Resort for the questions we suggest.
What do I check for a standard Redang package?
| Line | Ask |
|---|---|
| Boat from Merang | Both ways, which time? |
| Room | Type, beds, view, beach distance |
| Meals | Which, which days, drinks? |
| Snorkel trip | How many stops, shared or private? |
| Marine park fee | In the price or on arrival? |
| Season dates | In writing |
A quote that fills most of these is easier to compare than one that fills few.
What about the season?
Most resorts close during the northeast monsoon, roughly October to March, and ferries are restricted [5]. Exact dates vary by resort and year, so ask for them in writing.
How do I compare two Redang resorts?
Pick two, for example Berjaya Redang Island Resort and Sari Pacifica Redang, and send the same questions. Compare the filled table above, not the headline price.
What should I ask the agency?
- Please list inclusions and exclusions side by side.
- Is the Merang boat included in both directions?
- Which meals and drinks are included?
- Is the marine park fee in the price?
- What are your season dates this year?
A better fit if…
A full package may suit you if you want the boat, room and meals in one clear quote. A room-only booking may be a better fit if you want to arrange the crossing yourself and are comfortable comparing the parts.
Common questions
What is included in a standard Redang package?
There is no single standard, so ask for the exact lines. A package may include a boat from Merang, a room and some meals, but the details differ by resort. Ask for the inclusions and exclusions side by side, in writing, before you pay.
Is the boat from Merang included?
A resort package can include it, but the quote must say so. Reported crossing time is about 45 minutes. Ask whether it covers both directions, which jetty and at what time. A room-only booking treats the boat as a separate cost.
Is the marine park fee in the package?
Some packages include it and some leave you to pay. Reported rates are RM30 for an adult without MyKad and RM5 with MyKad, with lower child rates. Ask where the fee sits in your quote and confirm the current figure.
How do I know which meals are included?
Ask for the meal plan in words: which meals, on which days, and whether drinks are included. A resort's own website may not state its plan, so a written reply from the agency is the only reliable source.
