Tioman ferry from Mersing: timetable and tides

You want to read a Mersing ferry timetable and know when it might shift.

A Mersing ferry timetable is a set of intended sailings, not a guarantee. Tides, sea state and demand can all move a time. Ferries to Tioman are run by Bluewater Express and Cataferry, and tickets are best bought in advance [1].

Our Tioman island guide covers the island, and the jetty connection planner lets you test your own times.

How do you read the timetable?

Read it as four pieces of information: the departure time, the check-in deadline, the jetty and the village it reaches. Each one can differ from what you assumed.

We have not confirmed crossing times or timetables from an operator source. Ask for the sailing on your date and write down:

  1. The departure time and the jetty.
  2. The check-in deadline.
  3. The village where the ferry lands.
  4. Whether the sailing can shift with tide or sea state.

Do tides matter?

For some boats they do. One guide says the Mersing to Rawa ferry is tide dependent, with about one hour of crossing and hourly sailings [3]. That is a different boat from the Tioman service, so do not assume the same rule.

Ask the operator directly. Our guide on boat transfers when the tide is low explains what low water can change at a jetty.

What about weather and sea state?

Sea state can move or cancel a sailing without warning. Travellers check strong wind and rough sea warnings on the Malaysian Meteorological Department site and the myCuaca app, and warnings update about every three hours [4].

Check on the day before and the morning of travel. If a warning is active, call the operator instead of guessing.

What does a worked example look like?

Suppose your ferry is listed at 11:00 and check-in is 45 minutes earlier. Suppose a tide or sea change moves it to 12:00.

If your plan had a half-hour buffer, you now wait 90 minutes at the jetty. That is fine if you have food and shade, and harder with a toddler. Plan what you would do with an extra hour.

What does the ticket cost?

One guide lists Bluewater Express at RM60 for adults and RM55 for children each way, and an older listing shows RM75 and RM60 from Mersing [2]. These figures are dated and inconsistent.

Ask for the current fare for your date, and check whether your package already includes the ferry. Our guide on boat transfer legs in a package helps.

What should you ask before you buy?

  • What are the sailings on my date, in both directions?
  • What is the check-in deadline?
  • Can sailings shift with tide or sea state?
  • Which village does the ferry reach?
  • What is the change and refund rule?
  • Where do I wait if the ferry is delayed?

A better fit if…

Relying on a set ferry time may suit you if:

  • your road leg has a real buffer.
  • your resort collects you on arrival.
  • you can absorb an hour’s change.

A looser plan may suit you better if:

  • you travel with a toddler or older parents. Leave room for a delay.
  • your leave days are fixed. Consider arriving the day before.
  • you worry about sea conditions. See cancelled boat transfers.

Send us the ferry time you are looking at and where you start, and we will help you read it against your road leg and your resort.

Common questions

How long is the ferry from Mersing to Tioman?

We have not confirmed the crossing time from an operator source. Ask the operator for the time on your date, and note both the departure and the expected arrival. Do not rely on a figure from a blog without checking it.

Do tides change the ferry timetable?

One guide says the Mersing to Rawa ferry is tide dependent, so tides can matter for some boats. We have not confirmed the same for Tioman. Ask the operator whether your sailing can shift with tide or sea state.

How early should I buy tickets?

Tickets are best bought in advance, according to the research. Busy weekends and school holidays can fill sailings. Buy as soon as your dates are fixed, and keep the confirmation with the jetty name on it.

What if the ferry is cancelled?

Ask beforehand what the operator does: a later sailing, a transfer to another day, or a refund. Keep your confirmation and any messages. Our guide on cancelled transfers lists the exact questions to ask.
