Tioman budget for two adults: ferry, room, food

You are planning Tioman for two and want to see how ferry, room and food add up.

A Tioman total for two adults has three big parts: the ferry, the room and the food. The ferry and park fee are close to fixed. The room and food repeat every day, so they move the total most.

For the island itself, see the Tioman island guide. Once you have a quote, the island trip cost calculator adds it up with your own numbers.

What do the ferry and park fee cost for two adults?

Ferries run from Mersing in Johor and Tanjung Gemok in Pahang, with Bluewater Express and Cataferry named as operators, and tickets best bought in advance [1]. One guide lists RM60 per adult each way, and an older listing shows RM75 from Mersing [2]. The figures are dated and inconsistent.

At RM60 each way, two adults going both ways pay RM240 [2]. At RM75, they pay RM300 [2].

The marine park fee is reported at RM5 per adult for Malaysians and RM30 for non-Malaysians, with one listing reporting RM10 at Mersing jetty [3]. For two Malaysian adults that is RM10 or RM20 [3]. Confirm the current amounts before you budget.

Which lines move the total most?

The room and food lines repeat each day. Whatever the room rate does, three nights multiply the change by three. Food works the same way: each extra cost per person per day is multiplied by two adults and by the number of days.

The ferry behaves differently. It is a fixed amount for the trip, so a longer stay spreads it over more nights. Divide the ferry total by the nights: two nights carry half of it each night, and four nights carry a quarter.

So a short stay makes the ferry matter more. Our guide to three days versus four days on Tioman explains the trade-off.

How does the village change the food bill?

Tioman has seven villages, including Tekek, which is the largest, and Salang, Air Batang, Juara, Genting and Paya [4]. Food and transport depend on where you stay. A village with several places to eat gives you more choice, and a smaller one may mean eating where you sleep.

Our guide to which Tioman village suits your trip compares the bases. Ask your accommodation what meals are included, and what the nearest alternative is.

When does the season matter?

Rainfall peaks from November to January, and many resorts close during the northeast monsoon, with exact months unknown [5]. Ask each place for its season dates in writing. Our guide to Tioman season and year-round access goes deeper.

How do you build your own number?

  1. Choose your jetty, dates and number of nights.
  2. Ask for the ferry fare each way, per adult.
  3. Ask whether the park fee is in the price.
  4. Ask for the room rate and the meals it covers.
  5. Estimate food outside the room price, per person per day.
  6. Add your road costs to the jetty.

A better fit if…

This budget frame suits you if you want to see each line before you choose a village. Another page may suit you better if you are weighing a package against booking separately, so read our guide to a package or a separate ferry and room on Tioman.

Tell us the village you have in mind, your dates and whether you lean toward a package, and we will help you ask for a quote that splits ferry, room and food.
