Teluk Pauh or Tuna Bay for quiet
You are down to two bays on Besar and quiet matters most.
Research lists a resort at Teluk Pauh and smaller stays at Tuna Bay, but it does not rate either bay for quiet [1]. So choose by the stay and the room: the number of rooms, the evening activity and your position. This guide gives you a way to test both.
Both bays are on Besar, about 40 minutes by speedboat from Kuala Besut [4]. For the broader room and beach comparison, read Tuna Bay and Teluk Pauh on Perhentian Besar.
What does each bay list?
Teluk Pauh has Perhentian Island Resort, which runs its own boat transfers [2]. To the south, Coral View Island Resort sits on a rocky peninsula [3]. Tuna Bay has Suhaila Palace, a mid-budget stay, and Cozy Chalet at the north end [1].
| Teluk Pauh | Tuna Bay | |
|---|---|---|
| Stays listed | Perhentian Island Resort; Coral View to the south | Suhaila Palace, Cozy Chalet |
| What to test for noise | Group bookings, evening events | Restaurant hours, generator |
| Movement between bays | Path from the north end of Tuna Bay | Same path |
Read the table as a starting point. Both bays need written answers.
How do you test a stay for noise in one evening?
Send each stay the same short message, then compare the replies tomorrow.
- State your dates and that quiet is your priority.
- Ask how many rooms share the beach.
- Ask when the restaurant or bar closes, and whether it plays music.
- Ask where the generator and boat landing sit compared with your room.
- Ask whether groups or events are booked on your dates.
A stay that answers clearly is a good sign. A stay that avoids the questions has told you something too.
What about the path between the bays?
A jungle path to Teluk Pauh starts at the north end of Tuna Bay [1]. If you stay in either bay, you could visit the other for a meal or a change of scene. Ask how long it takes, whether it is lit and whether it suits children or older guests.
This matters for quiet, because it gives you a way out if one bay is livelier than you hoped. See also quiet versus social bases on Perhentian Besar.
A better fit if
Teluk Pauh may be a better fit if:
- you prefer a resort with set rules and its own boat.
- you want one place to ask for any change.
- you like predictable meal times. See the Perhentian Island Resort page.
Tuna Bay may be a better fit if:
- you want a smaller stay and a lower budget.
- you like to choose where you eat.
- you want the path to the other bay on your doorstep.
What to ask both bays
- How many rooms share the beach?
- When does evening noise stop?
- Can I request a room away from the restaurant?
- Can I change rooms if noise is a problem?
- Do you host groups on my dates?

Common questions
Which is quieter, Teluk Pauh or Tuna Bay?
No source we checked rates either bay for noise. Teluk Pauh lists a single resort, Perhentian Island Resort, while Tuna Bay lists a mid-budget stay and a chalet. Quiet depends on room count, evening activity and where your room sits, so ask each stay.
Does a resort mean quieter than chalets?
Not necessarily. A resort can be calm, with set meal times and its own boat, but it can also host groups. Chalets can be calm if few rooms share the beach. Ask about group bookings and evening activity.
Can I get away from noise if it starts?
Ask whether you can move rooms, whether another bay is a short walk and whether a taxi boat runs in the evening. A written answer about moving rooms is worth having before you pay.
Is the walk between bays safe?
A jungle path from the north end of Tuna Bay to Teluk Pauh is noted. We have not walked it, so ask about its condition, lighting and time, and avoid it in the dark or in rain unless the stay advises otherwise.
