Perhentian Island Resort vs Abdul's Chalet

You are choosing between two Perhentian Besar stays and want to know what research actually confirms.

Perhentian Island Resort and Abdul’s Chalet Resort are both on Perhentian Besar, but they sit on different beaches and we know much more about one than the other. PIR’s own site confirms its bay and its boat transfers. Abdul’s Chalet has only a travel blog mention, so almost everything about it is a question.

Start with the Perhentian Besar island guide, then use this page to build your questions. The resort inclusion comparator helps you line up meals and transfers once the replies come in.

Kuala Besut to Besar takes about 40 minutes by boat [2], so the sea leg is the same for both. See our pages on PIR and Abdul’s Chalet for what each adds.

How do the two beaches change your questions?

A resort at Teluk Pauh and one at Abdul’s Beach will not offer the same walk, the same view or the same snorkelling access. Our guides to Tuna Bay and Teluk Pauh and to Flora Bay and Abdul’s Beach describe the two sides of the island.

Ask both resorts how far each room is from the sand, where the nearest snorkelling starts, and whether the beach is easy to use at low tide. If you travel with older relatives or a child, ask about steps and slopes between the room and the beach.

What do the boat and the fees add up to?

Your quote should name the jetty at Kuala Besut, the boat time and whether the return trip is in the price. One source gives the earliest boats at around seven or eight in the morning and the last in the late afternoon [5]. A late arrival can therefore matter.

The marine park fee is a separate line. One report gives RM5 for Malaysians and RM30 for foreigners [4]. It is a news figure and may change, so ask the resort to state the amount and whether it is paid on arrival. A district council charge was reported in 2022, with current status unknown, so ask that too.

A better fit if…

PIR may be a better fit if you want the resort to run your boat transfer and you prefer a named restaurant on site. Confirm both in writing.

Abdul’s Chalet may be a better fit if you are happy to ask more questions in return for a beachfront stay. Treat the restaurant mention as a hint, not a fact.

Either may be a poor fit if you need to know every meal and fee before you pay. In that case, ask for a full written list first.

What should you ask both resorts?

  1. Which room fits our group, and how many does it take?
  2. Which meals are in the rate on every night, including arrival and departure?
  3. Is the boat from Kuala Besut included both ways, and at what times?
  4. Is the marine park fee in the price?
  5. What are your monsoon closing dates this year?
  6. What happens if the boat cannot sail on the day?

The monsoon is heavy from roughly November to February [3]. Read the Perhentian season guide before you fix dates.

Tell us your dates and how many are travelling, and we will help you send the same boat, meal and fee questions to both resorts.

Common questions

Which is easier to reach, PIR or Abdul's Chalet?

Both are on Perhentian Besar, and the crossing from Kuala Besut is about 40 minutes. PIR's site mentions its own boat transfers. We have no transfer detail for Abdul's Chalet. Ask each one how guests arrive, where the boat lands and whether you walk or ride from the landing to your room.

Do PIR and Abdul's Chalet include meals?

PIR's official site does not state its meal plans, and we have nothing confirmed for Abdul's Chalet beyond a travel blog mentioning a beachfront restaurant. Ask which meals are in the rate, which are extra, and what a drink costs. Compare the quotations only after the meals match.

Are they on the same beach?

No. PIR is at Teluk Pauh, and Abdul's Chalet Resort is at Abdul's Beach. The two bays are different, so ask each resort how far your room is from the sand, where snorkelling starts and how the tide changes the beach.

Do both close in the monsoon?

Heavy monsoon runs roughly November to February, and most islands are essentially closed to tourists. Exact dates vary by resort and year. Ask each one for its closing and reopening dates in writing, and ask what is refunded if the boat cannot sail.
